Full body statue of the god Vishnu, with a cylindrical crown on his head and wearing a sampot, a short wrap with carved lines indicating its loop around the waist. Bare-chested, his right arm is broken at the shoulder, left at the wrist, right leg at the ankle, and left at the knee. His eyes are carved in outline, nose broken away and right side of the face worn.

Description

The muscular physique, sensitive smile, and flat-topped high crown are characteristics of Vishnu images made during the pre-Angkorian period (c. 550–802) in Cambodia. This sculpture probably was the sole object of worship in a small brick temple sanctum.
