Faience Plate
c. 1760
made by
(Italian)
Diameter: 23.8 cm (9 3/8 in.)
Location: Not on view
Description
The use of colored ground with the irregularly shaped reserve panels with figural decorations reflects the influence of other European ceramics, particularly Meissen porcelain. The decorations of this plate are charmingly naive and demonstrate the efforts of Italian ceramic makers to keep abreast of current fashions in the field.- R. Thornton Wilson, New York.
