Basin
c. 1770
Location: not on view
Description
On the basis of the style of its decoration, particularly the symbolic trophies of love derived from the repertoire of classic ornament, this ewer and basin can be dated c. 1770. At this period, the output of the Chantilly factory was largely restricted to comparatively utilitarian table wares; pieces such as these are quite rare.- (Cesar de Hauke, Paris).
