A circular, black-inked etching portrays Hans Holbein, a man with a medium-light skin tone and a full, dark beard. Facing right but looking toward us, he wears a dark cap and jacket over a ruffled collar. Shaded with fine cross-hatching, his face is centered within the circle. Above, text reads "HANNS HOLBEIN"; below, Latin script identifies him. Initials and the year "1543" are inscribed on either side of his head.
