Description

This four-section screen is made of a group of 24 rectangular wooden panels of varying sizes. Each plaque is deeply carved and reticulated to form figural and landscape scenes. The plaques are covered with gold leaf, red, black, and other colored lacquered paints, to which have been added sprinkled gold, mica, and mother-of-pearl. The four screen frames, dating from the late Qing period (19th century), are constructed of heavy dark rosewood and carved with key fret patterns on the viewing surface and openwork floral panels at their bases.
