Description
In this delicate view of the French suburban town Charenton-le-Pont, on the right bank of the Seine, tiny boats, suggested by a few pen and ink lines, glide under a bridge. The striking, reflective surface of the water is suggested by the bright white of the paper. Pennell executed a number of panoramic views of Paris in 1893. The linear quality of this drawing suggests that this may have been a preliminary study for an etching which was never executed.- Nature Sublime: Landscapes from the 19th Century.
