Deep Bowl with Dragons
1700s
(1615–1868)
Diameter: 20.6 cm (8 1/8 in.); Overall: 8 cm (3 1/8 in.)
Location: Not on view
Description
Graced with energetic dragons amid clouds, this deep bowl has a petal-shaped rim. The coiled position of the dragon in the center and the chasing action of those on the sides contribute to a sense of circular motion. The exterior shows a running figure and two birds in flight, echoing the movement in the interior.- (Bluett and Sons, London); Severance and Greta Millikin, Cleveland, 1958.
