Description

In aligned rows and columns, this textile preserves two rows of three eight-pointed stars and fragments of stars on all four sides. Each eight-pointed star has a narrow border of pearls that encloses a 16-pointed star with a border of scrolling foliate motif. The inner star has a design in the upper half that is repeated in mirror image in the lower half; it consists of pair of winged quadrupeds flanking a tree of life. All interstices in both stars are filled with a stylized floral motif. Interspaces are ornamented with a cross of four-directional palmettes.
