Description
Sasajima was introduced to printmaking by Hiratsuka and studied with Munakata, both masters of the black-and-white woodcut (whose works are on view in this exhibition). Rather than trying to convey realistic perspective in his imagery, Sasajima experimented with the translation of the two-dimensional quality of calligraphy into woodcut.- East Meets West: Tradition and Innovation in Modern Japanese Prints.
