Description
Casilear began his career as an engraver but shifted to landscape painting at the suggestion of his friend, the painter Asher B. Durand (1796–1866). He made this drawing while traveling in Europe with Durand and another New York landscape painter, John Frederick Kensett (1816–1872).- American Drawings from the Permanent Collection.
