Description

In the 1970s, minimalist sculptors like Donald Judd eliminated narrative subject matter to create works that have no meaning outside of themselves. The content of a piece is found in its color, shape, texture, and the arrangement of the individual elements. Geometric, mathematical calculations were used to create impersonal works of machine-made, simple forms. Cleveland's stark sculpture consists of a vertical arrangement of evenly spaced, identical green aluminum and clear plexiglas rectangular boxes, attached to the wall at right angles.
