Description
Rivière was profoundly affected by ukiyo-e prints. In this view of rain falling diagonally across a stylized landscape, the influence of such prints as Ando Hiroshige’s Evening Rain at Karasaki, Pine Tree (1830) is most evident.- Nature Sublime: Landscapes from the 19th Century.
