Description
Chiefly a reproductive printmaker, he made about 360 prints after the leading Italian artists of the period, including Parmigianino, Giulio Romano, and Titian. One of the few prints designed and executed by Bonasone, this is an exceptional work. Its innovative use of etching to achieve dramatic tonal effects probably results from Parmigianino's influence.- Pierre Mariette (1634-1716), Paris, script (Lugt 1790), lower left, verso, in pen and brown ink ; Joseph Grünling (d. 1845), Vienna, stamp (Lugt 1463), lower left, verso, in black ; purchased from (Jan Johnson, Montreal, Canada)
