A vertically oriented lithograph in grayscale depicts a cluster of tall, thistle-like plants rising from deeply lobed, spiky leaves. Sturdy stalks extend upward, topped with jagged flower buds. Fine hatching creates depth among the foliage, while bright highlights illuminate the central leaves. To the right, delicate white blossoms and grasses fringe a dark pool at the base. Handwritten script and the date 1848 mark the bottom corners of the composition.
