Description
A native of Cleveland, Lisa Klausner won the special award for graphics with this work in the museum's regional juried exhibition, The May Show. The dramatically hand-colored image of boys on a river is dominated by the figure in the foreground. He looks down toward another youth, who uses a pole to guide his boat, as another child swims nearby. Klausner effectively used shadow, light, and line to add interest and movement to the composition. The darkened profile of the onlooker prevents the viewer from clearly seeing his expression. Nevertheless, the photograph emits the feeling of sadness one often experiences when excluded from an activity.- Hinson, Tom E.
