Description

This thangka includes a series of donor portraits of Hindu laypeople from Rajasthan, who sponsored this painting for a Buddhist temple. It is from a fascinating moment in Nepalese history when Nepal was governed by the Rajput Gurkha clan.

    Provenance Footnotes
    1 Frances Latzko Drew married to Walter H. Drew (1923-2013) in 1973. He spent his career in US government service, first intercepting Japanese communication traffic during World War II, and later as a Foreign Service Officer for the US Department of State. His postings included Korea before and during the Korean War, Casablanca, Lagos, and Conakry. She accompanied him on postings to Accra, Seoul, and Washington, D.C.
