late 1400s
Overall: 25.9 cm (10 3/16 in.)
Location: 101A Prints & Drawings
Description
Tall beakers were used for a variety of beverages, but especially wine and beer. They were often passed around during communal drinking on celebratory occasions. This pole glass (stangenglas), characterized by its tall cylindrical structure and pedestal foot, is adorned with prunts, glass blobs that afford a firm grip in the absence of a handle.- Karl Amendt, Krefeld; Biemann, Zurich; (Rainer Zietz, Ltd., London).
