White glazed lidded stoneware vessel in a shell-like shape, the lid merging with the body of the vessel. Jutting out, serrated edges frame lines swishing vertically down the sides before the serration clusters at the top. The vessel stands on a narrower base, widening and rounding at the top. Fine crease-like lines streak horizontally across the vessel.

Description

Koike Shōko, one of the first women to graduate from the renowned ceramics department at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, often draws her forms from the ocean. The artist has shaped this lidded vessel as a shell, with sweeping curves and serrated edges, capturing an undulating sense of movement.
