Description
During the mid-1970s, Richard Misrach created a series of landscape photographs of cacti, stones, and palm trees at night. Using long exposures and a strong flash, he captured scenes only a camera can record. In this print, he isolated a monumental cactus in the Mojave Desert, positioned against a dark sky broken only by the small bright dot of the moon. The plant's totem-like form becomes a mysterious icon for the viewer to meditate upon, just as the photographer did when making the image.- Cleveland Museum of Art, Tom E Hinson.
