Description
During his more than five-decade career, portraiture—especially of family and friends—has been an important component of Friedlander’s prolific and copious work. He was one of the first contemporary photographers to turn his role as a silent, curious observer inward, photographing himself beginning in the 1960s and continuing periodically throughout his career. Sitting in his spare hotel room, he straightforwardly recorded with his characteristic dry wit the ordinariness of his daily life.- Toby Miller, New York
