Description
Some of Dine's most powerful and penetrating works from the 1970s are self-portraits and portraits of his wife, Nancy. An accomplished printmaker, Dine carved the block of wood in an aggressive manner, chiseling and gouging and allowing the grain to give texture to the image. Dine never printed an edition of Woodcut Self-Portrait #3; this is a unique impression- Against the Grain: Woodcuts from the Collection. The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH (organizer) (August 17-November 9, 2003).
