Description

Lesley Dill makes full use of the photographic and printmaking possibilities of photomechanical processes. Each print here is produced with a variety of techniques layered atop one another. Similarly, the images are printed on different paper types stitched together with string. Technically and creatively, the artist weaves text throughout her work. The title of the suite comes from the Christian Bible (John 1:14) by way of poet Emily Dickinson: “And the Word was made flesh,” referring to Jesus as the embodiment of the Word of God. Passages from four Dickinson works are spelled out by Dill on images of a female body, combining photography, drawing, writing, and sewing to make new works.
