As part of the artist’s Dream series, this contemporary Korean ceramic work expresses how the long, rich tradition of Korean ceramics continues to be the source of artistic inspiration for contemporary artists. Shin borrowed the main decorative mode called buncheong, a type of ceramic ware popular in the 1400s and 1500s that uses a coating of white slip, seen in the photograph of the tall jar, with drawn abstract patterns evoking expressive calligraphic brushstrokes.
