Description
Wheeler's work was influenced by the overall patterning and shallow space of Northwest Coast Indian Art, Surrealism, and the whimsical abstractions of Paul Klee. Wheeler was the unofficial leader of a loosely organized group of artists known as the Indian Space Painters whose hard-edged, carefully planned works emphasized the relationship between positive and negative space.- {{cite web|title=Hello Steve: Print Number Eight: The Power of Memory|url=false|author=Steve Wheeler|year=1947|access-date=23 April 2024|publisher=Cleveland Museum of Art}}
