Description
Over the past forty years, Larry Fink has photographed what Americans do for pleasure, celebration, and relaxation. Whether recording events of the social elite or the rituals of a family in rural Pennsylvania, he documents stolen moments that occur in ordinary circumstances. This tonally rich image from Fink's body of work, which focuses on the sport of boxing, gives a spectator's view of an actual match. Shooting from behind a row of seats in the balcony, Fink captured a cheering fan in the foreground who concentrates on the sparring athletes in the ring below. The dramatic lighting and crowded space add to the tension of the photograph.- Gifts from the CMA Friends of Photography.
