Description

Since the late 1990s, Dutch photographer Bert Teunissen has created a group of solemn, softly lit portraits of elderly men and women in their antiquated homes. For the artist, his subjects evoke distant memories of his childhood and are living relics of a simpler time. Golden light from an unseen window illuminates the architecture and rich furnishings of the room in this photograph. The highlights and tightly controlled composition suggest the work of such Dutch masters as Vermeer and Pieter de Hooch. The owner of a well-known vineyard in France, this obviously affluent sitter appears at ease in front of the camera.
