Description

Sensitive and penetrating portraits, particularly of school children, characterize the photography of Ross. The Cleveland-based George Gund Foundation commissioned Ross to create a new body of work focusing on students attending Cleveland public schools—images subsequently published in the foundation’s 1992 annual report. In this poignant photograph, Ross displays her uncanny ability to connect with a subject, capturing with an 8-by-10-inch view camera one student’s youthful appearance, vulnerability, and humanity.
