Description

This decorative charger is an exceptional example of the Japanese taste in 19th-century French decorative arts. Influenced by cloisonné exported by Japan when the country opened it borders to the West in the 1850s, this charger features parrots in lush foliage before a blue background that imitates cloisonné. The exceptional nature of the enamel decoration is due to the fact that this charger was created by Daubron Frères for exhibition at the 1878 Paris world's fair. An inscription on the back documents the inclusion of this particular piece in the fair.
