Description

Hewit was a master of the white-line color woodcut. In this technique grooves are carefully cut into a block of wood, creating divisions between raised areas, which are then inked in different colors and printed on white paper. In 2010, the museum celebrated a substantial gift of the artist’s work by producing a solo exhibition and catalogue, "Midwest Modern: The Color Woodcuts of Mabel Hewit."
