Description
Although Hewit employed a V-shaped gouge, she mostly cut her blocks using a straight-blade knife with a tapered point. To create curved lines, she stitched together many short knife-cut lines, especially visible in the archway in Homeward Bound.- Midwest Modern: The Color Woodcuts of Mabel Hewit. The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH (organizer) (June 26-October 24, 2010).
