Description
Tree is an example of Dubuffet’s full-blown Hourloupe style. In this drawing, Dubuffet further restricted his Hourloupe palette of black, white, and red to simply black ink on white paper. Landscapes became an increasingly prevalent theme in Dubuffet’s work throughout the 1960s. In addition to drawing and painting trees in the spring of 1964, he also drew isolated domestic objects-a typewriter, a pair of scissors, and a cup of tea-described as landscapes.
