Description

Place was important to Baumann, who imbued his prints with the ambiance of each locale. He wanted to depict every region as he found it, retaining its individual character. “What I produced in Brown County reflected the homey honesty of the place,” he enthused. “It was one of those restful moments in art when a house and a corn shock in the autumn haze still excited everyone’s interest. The place was so full of things that had not been exhausted as material. . . . Brown County was a sort of refuge.”
