Description

A perfectionist, Baumann experimented and would sometimes change colors or the woodblocks for a print. In 1932 he recut the blocks for San Geronimo Taos. A new block, which was printed in red, adds details and patterns to blankets and the clothing of Native Americans in the foreground. Compare this impression with the one printed in 1924, when the original blocks were cut, where the blankets and clothing are areas of solid color. Other changes in the later example include the addition of horizontal white lines to distinguish the ladders and the stories, or vigas, of the pueblo.
