Description
Sandia, the Spanish word for watermelon, is the name of a small mountain range east of Albuquerque. Local lore explains the name given by early Spanish settlers; one part of the range is rounded like a watermelon and the rose-colored glow at sunset recalls the flesh of the fruit. By the early 1920s Baumann exhibited widely, enjoyed gallery representation across the country, and was a very well-known American artist.- Gustave Baumann: Colorful Cuts.
