Description
During the fall of 1934, Baumann arrived at Sequoia National Park after a long road trip and soon wrote his wife, Jane, as he did on all his travels: “Working this morning I was surprised by a deer looking over my shoulder. . . . Altogether it would seem that Los Angeles is not quite all of California. Certainly this is about as lovely a place as one could ask.” Baumann had a Kodak Brownie camera and took many photographs on his sketching outings; some were later referenced for compositional ideas.- Gustave Baumann: Colorful Cuts.
