Description

Misrach’s series Desert Cantos chronicles human interaction with the American desert. In this image from Canto XV, a guide for drivers attempting to break land speed records bisects the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The line acts as a ruler to provide scale for the seemingly infinite landscape. Dramatically dark against the pale plain, it is a forceful reminder of human presence in even the most desolate locations.
