Santa Claus Mola

c. 1986
Location: Not on view

Description

Mola makers draw inspiration from the wealth of printed material brought to Gunayala—everything from magazines to product packaging. This mola features a pair of Santa Clauses that depart considerably from the famous red-and-white figure, demonstrating the creative liberty taken by the artist. The pairing of images likely relates to Guna interest in doubles and doubling.
