Description

This view of 42nd Street from the corner of Fifth Avenue looks west toward Sixth Avenue. The New York Public Library is in the left foreground. Arms always made contour drawings on site, delineating the important aspects of the subject. Later in his Connecticut studio he traced the outlines of the forms onto tracing paper, which was used to transfer the subject onto the plate.
