Description

Red Diamond Runner exemplifies Diane Itter’s signature use of a wide color palette, laboriously knotted abstract compositions, and long flowing fringe. She created a juxtaposition between a simple half-hitch knotting technique—nearly 400 knots per square inch—and the long unworked fringe that draws attention to the object’s fiber materials. Carefully mapping her geometric designs before beginning, the artist referred to her style of working as “slow painting,” creating compositions by piecing together distinctive patterned forms to create eclectic asymmetry.
