Description
Lyon got to know and photographed the inhabitants of Clifton Street in Uptown, a tough, Chicago neighborhood populated by recent immigrants from central Appalachia. “The pictures,” he wrote, “do not ask you to ‘help’ these people, but something much more difficult; to be briefly and intensely aware of their existence, an existence as real and significant as your own.”- {{cite web|title=Uptown Chicago|url=false|author=Danny Lyon|year=1965, printed 1979|access-date=21 December 2025|publisher=Cleveland Museum of Art}}
