Description
Danny Lyon has called himself a journalist and his work “advocacy journalism.” This scene is part of a series called Conversations with the Dead, the result of the fourteen months in 1967–68 that Lyon spent photographing inside the Texas penitentiary system. “I tried with whatever power I had to make a picture of imprisonment as distressing as I knew it to be in reality.”- {{cite web|title=Interior of a Prisoner's Cell, Walls Unit|url=false|author=Danny Lyon|year=1969, printed 2014|access-date=19 December 2025|publisher=Cleveland Museum of Art}}
