Description

Otto Freundlich (German, 1878-1943) co-organized the first Dada exhibition in Cologne in 1919, but in 1925, he transitioned to abstract painting and sculpture. Although Sander probably shot this portrait in Germany, Freundlich spent most of his time after 1925 in France. Of Jewish descent, in 1943 he was sent to a concentration camp and murdered on the day of his arrival.
