Did You Know?
According to Hopper’s wife, it took the artist about one hour to draw this portrait.Description
This drawing is one of relatively few portraits that American artist Edward Hopper created throughout his career. It depicts Dick Magee, a friend of the artist and his neighbor on Cape Cod, where both summered with their wives. Hopper created the drawing as a gesture of friendship for Magee during a 1952 trip, using charcoal to add shadows that emphasize his serious expression.- Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inc., New York, NY2001-2018James and Hanna Bartlett, Lincoln, MADecember 3, 2018the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH
