Did You Know?
Hewit may have learned about color woodblock prints through an exhibition of these works held at the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1920.Description
This print was made using a technique called white-line woodcut, in which black outlines are replaced by un-inked areas in which the paper’s tone shows through. Cleveland-based artist Mabel Hewit worked prolifically in this medium, using it to depict aspects of modern life. Here, a row of houses borders an expansive field with the forms of a factory in the far distance.- Mabel A. Hewit (the artist) [1903-1984]Estate of Mabel A.
