Description

As a master of mezzotint—a type of intaglio printmaking which works from dark to light by scraping down a roughened metal plate—Mario Avati’s imagery often gives the sense of objects or animals emerging into the light from dark shadow. Rendered with an emphasis on shape and form, and with child-like sincerity, this still life is subtly colored and suggests that color exists only where there is light.
