Did You Know?

Aaron Siskind taught high school English in New York City for 23 years before he took up photography.

Description

Siskind found motifs in the city or in nature that, when detached from their context through close-up, enter into a dialogue with contemporary avant-garde painting, especially Abstract Expressionism. Whether capturing fragments of nature, architecture, or the urban environment, Siskind created images that explored abstraction, symbolism, gesture, and texture.
