Did You Know?
Martin Drölling’s daughter, this portrait’s sitter, went on to become an artist herself, painting under the name Madame Joubert.Description
Martin Drölling was an accomplished portraitist, known for intimate depictions that revealed their sitters’ personalities. This drawing shows his daughter, Louise Adéone (1797–before 1831) wearing a fashionable dress and hat. The young woman meets the artist’s gaze directly and confidently, her features delineated by a combination of smooth lines and soft shading in charcoal.- February 1998Galerie Arnoldi-Livie, Munich, GermanyMr. Noah L.
