Takegoshi Jun is a fourth-generation Kutani ware porcelain artist. Characterized by a series of distinctive palettes of color enamels over glazed porcelain, Kutani ware has been produced in what is now Japan’s Ishikawa prefecture since the early 1800s. The sophisticated bird-and-flower imagery seen in much of Takegoshi’s work stems from his formal training as a Nihonga, or Japanese–style, painter. He executes his designs in the five-color (go-sai) mode.
