In 1955, Ishiguro was designated a Living National Treasure for his mastering of tetsugusuri, or iron-glazed ceramics.

Description

Painted with four swimming fish, this bowl was created by one of the most influential Japanese potters of the 1900s. It was made a few years after Ishiguro Munemaro was designated as a Living National Treasure. Each fish faces a different direction, creating a sense of movement and play.
