Description

Aaron Rothman combines several images, taken years apart, of the same site through Photoshop to evoke a gentle dissonance of time and space. “The pictures are partially about the distancing of memory,” he says. The process of layering grays them out, which evokes a nostalgic feel, but “they also have ominous, digital artificiality that offsets the nostalgia.” There are numerous erasures of parts of the landscape; they anticipate its future loss through climate change or land development.
